We would agree with Gawronski that citizens who start acting like kids need to be controlled. We would add that supervisors who start acting like the community is their own little fiefdom need to be controlled as well.

Residents happy: CFC Logistics has decided to close its food irradiator

The company that overcame public opposition to build a food irradiator has decided to shut it down because demand never lived up to expectations.

"We concluded that the market did not materialize in any substantial form," Jim Wood, president of CFC Logistics, said Tuesday. He said the irradiator, which uses radioactive cobalt 60 to kill bacteria, was turned off last week after 19 months of operation.

 

Firm searches Bucks for natural gas

An independent energy company has been quietly signing oil and gas lease contracts with Nockamixon area residents in hopes of tapping natural gas reserves in the area.

Arbor Resources, which operates 75 oil- and gas-producing properties in Michigan, its home base, and elsewhere in the Midwest, has secured 100 contracts covering about 1,600 acres, according to Terry Beia, the company's manager. Arbor's goal is to have lease contracts for about 6,500 acres before beginning to drill exploratory wells "to evaluate the commercial capability of this prospect," he said.

Nockamixon's environmental advisory council will meet with representatives of Cabot Corp. early in January to discuss the cleanup of the metal processing site in Revere that once stored radioactive byproducts, it was announced Tuesday night at a township supervisors meeting.

A federal judge has denied the request of three Nockamixon supervisors to drop a lawsuit by a former township administrator who claims she was fired because she accused her employers of wrongdoing.

Michigan company gets drilling rights in Nockamixon

It hopes to tap natural gas deposits believed to be beneath township.

Buried far below Nockamixon Township, as deep as two miles, could be valuable deposits of natural gas.

This is the hope of Arbor Resources, a Traverse City, Mich., oil and gas exploration company that has signed contracts for drilling rights with more than 100 Nockamixon property owners, according to Terry Beia, manager of the company.

In a prepared statement, Beia said the company hopes to add more properties before ''formally proposing a test well to evaluate the commercial capability of the prospect.''

Beia would not discuss specifics of the project.
