Covering the cost of bridge damage
http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/news/113-09142007-1407433.html
Folks driving through
New Britain might want to stop to make sure their vehicle is
shorter than 11 feet, 10 inches before they drive through the Pine
Valley covered bridge.
Any taller than that could damage the bridge, which could cost
the driver $1,000 plus the price of repairs.

In order to prevent the state from widening Headquarters Road
bridge to two lanes, the
Tinicum Township supervisors could take local ownership of the
circa-1812 span.
The issue is on the supervisors' agenda for the meeting Feb. 20 at
7:45 p.m. at the municipal
building. Local officials say the state would pay for a new,
one-lane bridge and give the
township close to a quarter million dollars for maintenance.
Officials accepted a petition with more than 100 signatures asking
the township to assume
ownership of the bridge. It cites disapproval with the
Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) plan to demolish the one-lane bridge,
which is on the National
Register of Historic Places. The state wants to replace it with a
two-lane bridge that meets
PennDOT safety standards. |

Tinicum to save another bridge
Township would accept span from state if it is rebuilt as single
lane.
By Kelly Madsen Special to The Morning Call
Tinicum is considering taking ownership of a second state-owned
bridge to retain its historic
character.
''Headquarters Road bridge is in pretty sad shape. Its barriers
regularly get knocked into the
creek,'' Supervisor Boyce Budd said Tuesday.
After being petitioned by nearly 100 residents, Tinicum
supervisors are considering relieving
the state Transportation Department of responsibility for the
almost 200-year old, one-lane
bridge that carries Headquarters Road over Tinicum Creek.

After more than a year's work, Chalfont's
historic district has made its way to the big leagues.
The 97 properties in the centrally located
district now have the bragging rights that come with being on the
National Register of Historic Places.
It's a great honor for Chalfont, said the
town's acting manager Janet Warren. I think it's a wonderful
thing for the borough.
