Bennie Janyszeski

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Janyszeski came to Hunterdon County as a young child and lived in West Amwell most of his life.

He retired in 1984 from J.D.M. Materials in New Hope, formerly A.L. Lewis RediMix, where he was employed for 38 years.

He was best known for his talents as a welder and excavation mechanic. He worked on the construction of the wing dam at Bull's Island for the Delaware-Raritan Canal and on the Texas-Eastern Pipeline. As a young man, he joined the C.C. Camps where he learned excavating. He later worked as a welder in Sparrows Point, Md. building Liberty Ships prior to entering the service.

Mr. Janyszeski was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving under General Patton in Germany. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and the Huertgen Forest Campaign. He was a prisoner of war and escaped from German imprisonment. Mr. Janyszeski was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Amercan Campaign Medal and the Service Victory Medal.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7921 and the American Legion Toscanni Post 120, both of Lambertville, N.J. He was also a member of the Lambertville Lodge 217 of the Loyal Order of Moose and of the Young Men's Athletic Club of Lambertville.

He was the son of the late Teofil and Anelia Krasowski Janyszeski and the brother of the late Rose Schibel.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Schibel Janyszeski; his daughter, Abigail E. Kutz of Riegelsville; his sons, Jonathan P. Janyszeski of West Amwell and Benjamin P. Janyszeski of Ottsville; his granddaughter, Kelsey; his brothers, Joseph Janiszewski of West Amwell and Stanley Janiszewski of Stockton, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, N.J. on Thursday, February 25, 1999 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery, Delaware Township, N.J. Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Moose Services will take place at 6:30 p.m. and American Legion-Veterans of Foreign Wars Services will take place at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
