WAYNE STEELEY

 

WAYNE STEELEY of Perkasie died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital, Quakertown. He was 84.

Born in Perkasie, he was the son of the late CLARENCE and JOSEPHINE (SLOTTER) STEELEY.

Mr. Steeley was a self-employed mechanic, operating Wayne's Service Station at Fifth and Buttonwood streets in Perkasie for 22 years, retiring in 1970. Following retirement, he was employed as a school bus driver for the Pennridge School District until 1993.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was the recipient of four medals, including the French Liberty Medal. He was a member of Hartzell-Crouthamel American Legion Post 280, Perkasie, as well as the V.F.W. Forrest Lodge No. 245, Sellersville.

Mt. Steeley was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where he served as an usher for 10 years. He also had perfect Sunday school attendance as a child.

He was a past president of Bux-Mont Gasoline Retailers Association, Souderton Hunting Club, and Babe Ruth Baseball League. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 1539 in Sellersville, Perkasie Order of Owls, and the Keelersville Club.

He is survived by two sisters, ELEANOR WUERSTLE and her husband, WILLIAM, of Perkasie and MARIE SNYDER and her companion, AL FRANTZ, of Sellersville; and five nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, in Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch St., Perkasie, where friends may call from 10 until the time of the service. Interment will be in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Perkasie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 19 S. Fifth St., Perkasie, PA 18944.
