Conrad Mattes, of the Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township,
Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at the Center. He was 85.
He was formerly of Ferndale and New Ringgold, Pa.
Born April 28, 1924, in Nockamixon Township, he was a son
of the late Conrad and Catherine Hilger Mattes.
He was a graduate of Nockamixon High School.
For 40 years, he worked as a truck driver for Durnan & Good
Concrete, formerly of Upper Black Eddy and Uhlerstown.
He was a former member of St. Luke's United Church of
Christ in Ottsville and a current member of Christ Church
McKeansburg, New Ringgold.
He had been a member of Palisades School Board and was a
life member of Revere Ferndale Hunting Club.
In 1948 he played minor league baseball for the
Philadelphia Athletics and later was a long-time Little League
coach in Ferndale. He was an avid sports fan.
He is survived by four children, and one
sister, Elizabeth Leonard Griffaton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, who died in
2006, and two brothers, George and John Mattes.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at
Robert W. Snyder Funeral Home, 327 Easton Road, Riegelsville,
where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Interment will be held
in Nockamixon Union Cemetery, Ferndale.
